A taste of January 2011

My "starts" garden inside our bedroom...just for 2 weeks. The ity-bity basil plants are outside now :)

An intense game of "Chicken Foot" dominos...see, it looks like a chicken foot! Yes, that's what it's actually called.

Evening tea with our fine china.

Okay, well, we had to bust it out sometime!

hmmm...I don't even know what to say other than...good job Mattie.

A typical January day in Southern California! (Laguna Beach, CA)

I (Michelle) headed down to the Farmer's market and watched a game of volleybal snacking on my snap peas.

Again, Laguna Beach.

I (Michelle) did a trial run of being part of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and this was in our first box! It's called "Romanesque Cauliflower" - it was sooo weird-looking, but tasted pretty good!

Matt's in Texas/Michelle's having girl time!

|
Matt's off in Texas helping to train the summer mission projects' operations directors. Teaching them about proper procedure, answering questions and helping to get all the money matters instructed ahead of time...and Michelle...has been having fun!

Thursday night Taiko came over.
Friday I got great news from a doctor!
Saturday was a wonderful day full of time with Elaine - cider, thrift storing, pie crust making, BBQ... and then Saturday evening had dinner at an Irish pub with Candace and Krisie...

why didn't I bring my camera?!

Bringing in 2011

|

We brought in the New Year in San Diego, CA at Campus Crusade's Winter Conference. Matt took a quick break from doing finances and we were able to dance a dance or two before the New Year, which we ushered in together.

One of the evening speakers.

Time for worship - by the student band.

Praying before going out sharing for the Day of Faith in San Diego.

A Recap of 2010

|
JANUARY

We rang in the new year in different places. Matt was at the Winter Conference for Campus Crusade for Christ in San Diego, and Michelle celebrated with her sister, Candace and Brooke in Long Beach, greek style!

FEBRUARY

Matt's birthday - Chinese buffet, his favorite!

MARCH

The OC Mud Run. My birthday gift from my sisters - so get all muddy, sweaty and well...to get the photo :)

APRIL

*
Okay, maybe I am experienced at dying Easter eggs, but Matt's definitely looked better than mine. I think my first "rainbow" was sort of an unfiltered pond water color.

 MAY

A pic from Arroyo Verde in Ventura when Matt and I went on a walk.

JUNE
Michelle's end of job vacation to detox, if you will. I put that tent up out of the box in less than 10 minutes! Thank you Girl Scouting.

I maybe did Yoga on a trial where there wasn't anyone else - so relaxing! But, I learned my lesson - no camping alone...or hiking alone - my sense of direction is horrific!

JULY
A picnic with Holly and Kaj, playing bocce.

The ladies! Visiting Davis this summer. Who knew dish-washing could illicit such smiles?!

We learned the joys of Restaurants.com recently and thoroughly our special date nights.

AUGUST

a very Swaney photo
...and maybe sneaking in a Christmas card photo too...

We both volunteered for Reality's VBS and that was filled with laughs and tons of kids.

SEPTEMBER

My Bridal fashion show swan song. (now, how to tell Renee that...)

FINALLY, getting to celebrate Nat's engagement to Jeff...and go dress shopping to find the dress...but I can't post that yet!

Who knew 10 years would go so fast? Heading out to Michelle's high school reunion in Long Beach.

We like to think that friends often have something in common with us, but this is pushing it - totally unplanned. Guess it was twins day for the guys and the gals:

Kaj and Matt

 Michelle and Holly

My dear friends Betty Westbrook and Betsie Basa at our "going away-ish" party at none other than...Pete's.

Our second apartment - this one's in Tustin. It's a cozy place.

OCTOBER

LA Arboretum - date day! Niiice! From clouds and tons of rain, to this photo and needing sunscreen. But, the rain scared off the humans, but not the peacocks.

The Rejuvenate event planners' conference. The best planned conference ever...but makes sense doesn't it? Meeting musician Kirk Franklin with other Campus Crusade for Christ event planners.

Grandma Betty turned 90 this year! We Skyped in her brother, Pat, in Ohio and his family, and all sorts of Swaney relatives.

A very Basich photo.

I think we both look scarier than that pumpkin. Matt's freehand pumpkin!

NOVEMBER

Christmas decorations! Set-up the day before Thanksgiving...not optimal, but with much family for Thanksgiving and then our 1st anniversary, what's a Christmas-decoration-loving gal to do?

My first attempt at turkey for Thanksgiving!

Matt's Thanksgiving day experience, while I was slaving away in the kitchen :) haha, it was nice to have some space in there!

Our 1st anniversary! Celebrated with a trip to Julian! But, man was it COOOLLLD! (Yes we are whimps to cold weather, it's true)

DECEMBER

Natalie in her babuscha - celebrating her birthday.

...then we headed down to the Winter Conference in San Diego.
